Vintage Native American Landing Net, Bent Branch and

[ translate ]

This landing net is 23" long and 7" wide. The Native American artist/craftsman has taken a 3/8" in diameter by 48" long flexible branch, and fashioned it into a landing net, both ends meeting, and bound in a soft leather wrap extending 6" forming a handle. The rest of the branch forms a narrow, elongated loop, formed like a lacrosse stick. The net was formed from a flat piece of netting, sewn up to form the landing net. this is attached to the loop with slimmer, 1/8" twigs, or vines. Where the handle joins net, there is decorative elements, leather fringe, feathers, and black and white beads. In addition, there is a leather strap, 29" long, forming a long loop, at the end of the handle. That handle is well worn, showing this piece was actually used. We don't know who, what, where, or when this was made, but it seems to be the real thing, and perhaps a museum quality piece. In excellent condition.
