The red gorgonian, Paramuricea clavata, is a marine species made up of thousands of coral polyps. These polyps live in large colonies that form typical fans arranged in a single plane with dense irregular ramifications often fused together. The branches of the Gorgonian are flexible, thin, the terminal ones are short and club-shaped. The skeleton is horny and can reach a thickness of 3/4cm at the base. The surface is wrinkled due to the presence of spicules also placed at the base of the polyps in order to protect them. Gorgonian polyps are fully retractable. The red gorgonian can reach one meter in height and width. Paramuricea Clavata lives both in the Mediterranean Sea and in some areas of the Atlantic. It loves rocky bottoms and can be found in front of caves or on vertical walls. It can be found from 7/10 m up to 110 m deep. This lot shows a majestic red gorgonian mounted on a natural element, a block of wood that the sea gives us with its perpetual pace. Recycled material therefore, to add charm to one of the most beautiful creatures that the sea can host.
