The Caravel program was born in Visconti in October 1990 for the celebration of the five hundredth anniversary of Columbus' voyage and the discovery of the Americas.
As always, Visconti designs an innovative set dedicated entirely to the theme of travel and to those who were most faithful to Columbus: the Three Caravels. The Caravel set includes a fountain pen, an inkwell, a leather cosmetic bag and a painting created by Mario Fantini depicting a Caravel.
The fountain pen is made of celluloid in three colours, light blue, brown and purple with white streaks to recall the foam of the sea waves. In a limited edition of 500 examples in the name of the 500 years of celebration, each of the pens bears a serial number and a badge depicting a Caravel on the cap. To complete the creation, a 14kt gold nib with rhodium inserts and thick 24kt gold finishes.
The travel inkwell, patented by Visconti and designed for the Caravel program, contains an important innovation: ink in tablets.
