Vitra by Charles & Ray Eames - Eames Radio - 1946 design - Radio
Charles and Ray Eames were so avant-garde that when they presented an innovative design for a radio, they couldn't find a manufacturer to support their proposal. However, in 2018, the Eames Radio was produced in collaboration with Vitra, presented in an elegant walnut case and equipped with the most advanced technology from the British manufacturer REVO.
In the 1940s, the Eameses were leaders in the art of shaping plywood, having successfully developed a unique method. They decided to apply this technique to various products, including radio casings. This gave birth to an elegant tabletop radio, with a molded plywood casing of understated design and a considerably compact size. This was uncommon at that time, and despite Charles and Ray providing photographs of the prototype alongside matchboxes for scale reference, Eames-designed radios ceased production in the 1950s.
The Eames Radio, designed by Charles and Ray Eames and launched in 2018 by Vitra, was presented in a limited edition of 999 units.
