Votive foil (1) - Copper - Vishnu - India - Late 19th century

[ translate ]

The embossed foil depicts the god Vishnu, one of the main deities of the Hindu pantheon. He is considered the preserver of the universe and in this votive plaque, he appears below the chatra, the umbrella symbol of royalty, sitting in the Padmasana position, intent on holding his attributes. Vishnu is adorned with sumptuous clothes and precious jewels. The expression of the face is serene. Some auspicious inscriptions appear at the top of the foil. The quality of the overhang and the engraving is really refined. Nice patina with slight wear due to use.
