[ translate ]

Votive model of an anatomical body. Etruscan culture, 4th-1st century BC.
Terracotta.
Provenance: Private collection T.O. Belgium, formed in the 1950s. Private collection, Valencia. Spain.
Good state of preservation: intact.
Measurements: 13.2 cm. high.
Anatomical body with a ritual purpose, as a funerary offering. Etruscan busts were mainly terracotta or bronze sculptures obtained from the moulds of funerary masks, since the paradigm of this culture was to suppose that something of the life of the deceased was preserved by representing his features as faithfully as possible. Etruscan art is notable for its funerary art and its relationship with painting and sculpture, particularly its terracottas and the carving of a local stone called "nenfro".
