Untitled (abstract calligraphy)
Ink on paper, canvas, wood
Consisting of two panels of paper joined in the centre, laid on a stretched canvas, the black ink abstracted calligraphy applied with both brush and cloth, with a rare early red seal mark for Walasse Ting applied to the centre of the work.
100cm high, 190cm wide

PROVENANCE:
Given to the vendor's parents by Michael Sullivan, Christensen Professor of Chinese Art at Stanford University and author of "The Arts of China". They were friends who had met in Burma.

Condition: Paper is laid down with glue onto a canvas stretcher. The paper is darkened/browned - either from natural oxidation or through the darkening glue. Tear through the paper and canvas backing to the top left hand corner. A repaired tear in the top section of the left-hand panel. Various marks which could be water damage. Small marks and stains throughout.
