Cloth slightly sunned on spine and upper cover, spine ends bumped, jacket with light soiling and staining, especially to spine, chipping at corners, a few small tears at edges of front and back panels. FIRST EDITION, ASSOCIATION COPY, inscribed and signed by the author's father: "John L. Bale / From his friend and colleague / Arthur Waugh / Father to the author, and — perhaps — the first inspirer of his critical flight / April:xix:1928." Bale was an editor at Chapman and Hall, where Arthur Waugh had been a director.
