W.C. Handy, the self-described "Father of the Blues" was not only a celebrated composer and bandleader, he made a significant mark as a music publisher. This particular song, which was published by his firm, was first recorded by African-American blues singer Ethel Waters in 1926. This particular sheet promotes a version by bandleader Benny Goodman from 1939.
