Description: Half-length portrait of the Dutch Lutheran theologian Adolphus Visscher the Elder after van Dyck. The religious scholar is depicted with a full beard and frilled collar in a simple oval frame inscribed with the details of the sitter and the date the portrait was taken. Below this is the inscription:
Pictoris cum docta manus depinxit ADOLPHUM.
Ipsa venusta Venus laude probavit opus:
Exoculos oculos tamen et sine mente figuram
Ut vidit, tali dicitur usa sale:
Apta quidem pinxit pictoris crenula corpus;
Ast, animi genium quae mihi pingat, UBI?
