WEDGWOOD LIGHT-BLUE STIPPLED SOLID JASPERWARE TWO-HANDLED VASE circa 1780-1800, impressed uppercase mark, after a design by Lady Elizabeth Templeton (1747-1843), of amphora form, the tall neck flanked by upright scroll handles entwined with serpents, applied in white relief of women and children with Cupid shooting his bow, a lamb, trees and a tripod between laurel and stiff leaf-tip borders, on a square white jasper base, h: 15 1/2 in.

First illustrated in the 1787 catalogue of ornamental wares, Wedgwood reproduced 14 reliefs based on Lady Templetown's designs. Josiah Wedgwood, himself, is recorded acknowledging her 'exquisite taste' and 'charming groups'. For an album of her etchings, see acc. no. E.79:3-2012.
