WESTREN ASIATIC DECORATED SPEAR HEAD ON STAND

550 BC–330 BC, Achaemenid. This beautiful bronze spearhead comprises a graceful prismatic blade with a decorated base comprising with two raised dots on each face, and an elaborate socket with raised dots matching the blade and incised linear decoration. This item is a perfect display piece with a gorgeous patina and a stand. The Achaemenid Empire (the first Persian empire) was an ancient empire founded by Cyrus the great and stretching from the Balkans and Eastern Europe to the Indus Valley and covering 5.5 million square kilometres at its height. This empire is also famous for being the antagonist of the Greek city states during the Greco-Persian wars. This beautiful spear head embodies the need for these ancient Persians to be armed and ready in order to survive and thrive. Good condition. Size: L:340mm; 380g. Provenance: Property of an established London gallery; acquired from a private estate collection formed in the 1970s.
