WILKES, Tom (1939 – 2009). Monterey International Pop Festival. June 16-17-18. San Francisco, 1967. Concert poster on silver foil paper. Smaller format, 21 ¼ x 12 3/8”. This festival was the first major American performance of the Jimi Hendrix Experience—during which Hendrix famously burned his guitar onstage. Other acts at this three-day festival which became synonymous with the Summer of Love included Otis Redding, The Who, Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Ravi Shankar, and The Byrds.
