The woman is depicted in an upholstered rocking chair with detailed wood arms. She wears a lace bonnet and mourning brooch at her neck. Her black dress with lace collar is wrapped by a skillfully depicted black satin shawl. She holds a red book in her hand and has what appears to be an ear trumpet at her waist.

The man is depicted in a mahogany arm chair wearing a high collar and waistcoat.

Each painting is displayed int he original matching lemon gilt gold frame.

Each canvas measures 25.75 x 30 with a framed size of 37.5 x 33 inches.
