Catalogue Note:
Little is known about William P. Sheys. He was a portrait painter and miniaturist from New York. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has two portrait miniatures (inv. nos.1998-349 and 2006.235.185) and there is miniature oil on panel portrait of Samuel Francis du Pont, 1818 by Sheys at the Winterthur Museum (siris no. 70831130)
