WILLIAM ZORACH, (American, 1887-1966), The Embrace
WILLIAM ZORACH
(American, 1887-1966)
The Embrace
bronze
inscribed William Zorach on base
height: 17 in.
Provenance: The Estate of a Boston Gentleman.
Other Notes: Though he began his artistic career as a painter, William Zorach came to view sculpting as his primary medium and as the most natural form of expression. He believed that love was a fundamental part of life and emphasized both the significance of the love of a mother and child and the love of a man and woman in his works. Without the relationship of man and woman, he felt, life would not exist. The Embrace demonstrates both the physical and emotional closeness of this love.
