* WILLIE FULTON (SCOTTISH 1945 - 2022) MOONLIT SEA
watercolour on paper, signed and dated '01 mounted, framed and under glass image size 32cm x 32cm, overall size 53cm x 53cm Note: Ardbuidhe Cottage Gallery was for many years the working studio and gallery of Willie and Moira Fulton, with stunning light, heavenly views and artwork lining the walls. His large-scale paintings – seen in island hotels, restaurants and regularly at the annual open exhibition Grinneas nan Eilean at An Lanntair – featured epic evocations of the sweeping skies and distinctive hills of Harris, although quizzical sheep and studies in still life or of wildflowers and creatures also stimulated his creativity. He was born in Glasgow in 1945 and graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1967. One of his numerous exhibition listings goes on to say: “He became an art teacher the following year and taught in secondary and further education for 30 years, taking early retirement in 1998. Since 1976 he lived and worked in the Isle of Harris. His work has been exhibited throughout the UK and worldwide and is widely collected. “His paintings are a personal evocation of his environment on Harris and its unique atmosphere. From his understanding of its weather and changing light, from sunrise to moonrise, he created a unique vision of the island.”
