Walnut forearm & straight grip walnut stock w/ trapdoor crescent steel buttplate. Left side of stock has oval brass plate engraved "HAYES / KANSAS" w/ a star in the center. Toeline of stock has 12 square headed nails arranged in elliptical pattern. Mfg. 1884. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to a brown patina showing scattered spots of surface corrosion. Wood has worn appearance showing scratches, dents & handling marks w/ sm. chips along top tang. Functioning set trigger. Dark bore w/ worn rifling & scattered pitting having a light ring a few inches from the muzzle. (01-18961/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
