WINIFRED NICHOLSON | LANDSCAPE, SPAIN

[ translate ]

Property from the Estate of the Late John Michael Dyson

WINIFRED NICHOLSON
1893-1981
LANDSCAPE, SPAIN

charcoal, watercolour and gouache on paper
55 by 75cm.; 21¾ by 29½in.
Executed in 1953.

Condition Report:
The sheet is fully laid down onto a backing board. The board bows slightly but appears sound. There is a tiny nick to the lower edge towards the lower left corner. The extreme edges are very slightly rounded in a few places. There are minor instances of remnants of adhesive and paper at the extreme edges, not visible in the present mount, most evident towards the left edge with additional probable areas of paint loss in two places and associated small flecks of staining. Much of the above is not visible in the present frame. To the right edge there are faint vertical marks towards the upper right corner, most likely associated with a previous mount or frame. There is a faint scuff to the light blue pigment in the lower left quadrant with possible further very minor instances in one or two places. There are a small number of tiny flecks of studio matter to the right of centre amongst the trees. The sheet has probable minor time staining and the pigments may have faded slightly. There are one or two very minor instances of detritus. This excepting, the work appears in very good overall condition.

The work is held behind glass in a painted wooden frame with a painted slip.
