“Crackle”, or “icy” glass (French craquelé, from craquer - to crack). A red-hot “jar” was dipped into cold water and a network of small cracks—craquelure—formed on its surface. Then the product was heated again, melting the sharp edges of the cracks, or a thin surface layer of glass was added, and the “icy” surface sparkled inside.n
