WORLD WAR II GERMAN P.O.W. GREATCOAT
Third Reich-era field-gray wool greatcoat, secured closed by six pebbled metal buttons on either side, vented at the rear. Features ‘slash' pockets with flap covers on either side of the waist and an adjustment belt at the rear. At the shoulders are pebbled metal buttons bearing the number ‘3', meant to secure shoulder boards (not present). Marked on the interior on the left side above the pocket as from Stuttgart and with various two-digit numbers. Painted in brown on the reverse are the initials ‘P G', standing for ‘prisonnier de guerre' (‘war prisoner'). Per our consignor who brought this item back from Germany, the coat was from a German soldier who was held in a POW camp in France until his return to Germany. Small spots of discoloration throughout and areas of torn or loose stitching, still very good.
