FELIX DE WELDON. 1907-2003. Alabaster cast stone model of the Flag Raising on Iwo Jima. [Washington: c.1945.]
An alabaster cast-stone model, unsigned but with a dedication from the sculptor written on the base, "to Rodney with warm friendship Felix de Weldon". Small restored chip on one corner, some light abrasion due to age. Width 8.25ins (210mm) height 7.25 ins (185mm).
Provenance: The Sculptor Felix de Weldon, gifted to his biographer Rodney Hilton Brown. Exhibited at the Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum, New York, 1995-2007.

One of a few alabaster stone cast experimental models made as a trial for a larger monument. Unfortunately the alabaster composite was not a good material, as it stains easily and is affected by acidic rain and flakes with frost damage.
