"V.- E. World War II Battlefields of Europe." British made, After May 1945.
A copper-plated brass souvenir cigar box. 160 x 160 x 55 mm, cedar-lined with two compartments, the lid stamped with a map of the Battlefields of Europe and North Africa, with the 4 sides listing the principal events of the War, year by year from 1939 to 1945. The box slightly rubbed with a few slight knocks.
Provenance: The War Museum, MA.
A rare and interesting souvenir relic commemorating the end of the War in Europe. Another example sold in these rooms in June 2014, was stamped "Granger made in Egypt", and the brass was salvaged from the Battlefields of World War II (shell casings etc). Granger was a British Military Supply firm in Egypt and likely made these commemorative pieces for their favored clients. This example seems to have been made by the same manufacturer, although unmarked.
