WW1, Great War, British 02 Pattern Service Dress Tunic, South Wales Borderers. A good original 02 pattern service dress tunic, to a sergeant in the South Wales Borderers. Constructed in a green khaki shade of serge material with a full compliment of GS buttons and a stitched down collar. The brass 'SWB' titles remain in situ to each epaulette as well as the Sgt stripes to each sleeve. The lower right sleeve has three blue overseas chevrons and the lower left sleeve has a metal 'Wound Stripe'. The interior has its white Egyptian cotton lining with khaki drill pocket liners. The first field dressing pocket remains in situ, as does the original paper label 'Serge, Service Dress' by 'James Smith (Derby)' and dated clearly '1915'. One of the interior pockets is stamped 'SWB 9045'. Several serviceman in the South Wales Borderers from various battalions, retain this number, but the closest match, is that of '9045, Walter R Samuels, SWB'. Who's Medal index card identifies him as a sergeant and being wounded. The tunic has suffered from scattered mothing and general age related wear. A good displayable Great war tunic. Scope for further research. The Late Richard Archer Collection.
