WW1 IMPERIAL GERMAN KAISER WILHELM II DINNERWARE

[ translate ]

This is a pair of Besteck flatware directly from the gala dinner table of Kaiser Wilhelm II in the Potsdam palace. These pieces are in generally beautiful condition except for the knife blades that are in steel and show the effects of well over 100 years of age (some small bits of old pitting are evident. The silver portions of the knife handles, however, are in fine "800" genuine silver as are the forks. This is probably the most elegant design ever used by a ruling monarch. Here are a knife and fork and they are very heavy and boldly presented. The forks are clearly marked with the moon, crown and a logo. They are also marked with the company name. This firm was granted the royal permission to be the exclusive supplier of this Kaiseruchebesteck. This firm was "GEBR.FRIEDLÄNDER" (Friedlander Brothers) and this appears on the forks, right below the tangs. On the backside of the grip on top is the Prussian crown over Kaiser Wilhelm’s initials "W R", while the front side bears the exclusive Prussian Imperial eagle. Both extrusions are surrounded with fine flora representation that adorns the entire implement. Again, these are almost twice as heavy as other royal or aristocracy items of a similar nature. The items are in beautiful condition. The blade of the knife is slightly pitted as would be expected in a household item used on a daily basis. Make no mistake, these are from the Kaiser’s own set and that he actually used them can be practically be taken for granted. These are treasures from an illustrious and beautiful era. To hold one has almost a magical, mental transformation to that time of “grace and glory.” The knife is 11 inches long altogether. The blade is about 7 inches long with almost 1 inch wide at the center. The dinner fork is about 8½ inches long and the fork blade is about 1¼ inches wide. This is truly a unique opportunity to own a pair of fantastic, historically important pieces of the beautiful and memorable Kaiserreich era.
