WW1 Royal Navy Officer's Dirk

British. 1914-1918. Metal, leather. The officer's sword is made by Gieves. The Gieves company were outfitters to the British Royal Navy. The etched blade bears the King's Crown over a Fouled Anchor, the emblem of the Royal Navy. The brass "wreath, naval anchor and crown" on the front langet (above the six-pointed star) represents King George V. Grip is wrapped with pebbled ray skin. The pommel (top of sword) shows a lion's head design. The Roll of Service for the MacRae Clan shows that all of the "K. MacRae"s (there were a total of 6) who enlisted in the Royal Navy, did so between 1914 and 1917. Marked, "Gieve's", on blade within a shield, at cross-guard (ricasso) and a six-pointed star with the word "PROVED" on the other side of the ricasso. Marked, "3366" on side of blade at cross-guard. Etched, on blade down length. Marked, "K. MacRae R.N." (Royal Navy), on scabbard. 5.75" x 23.5". From the Darryl Silver Collection.
