Lot of WWI and WWII European Medals to include 1) KINGDOM OF ITALY ITALO-AUSTRIAN WAR MEDAL 1915-1918. A bronze construction medal depicting an Italian soldier to its obverse with the embossed text, ‘Gverra Per L’Vnita D’Italia 1915-1918'. The reverse has the embossed text, ‘Coniata Nel Bronzo Nemico’. The medal loop is fully intact. Comes complete with an original piece of red, white and green rayon ribbon. 2) WWI ITALIAN VICTORY MEDAL. The Allied Victory Medal (Italian: Medaglia interalleata della vittoria or Medaglia della vittoria commemorativa della grande guerra per la civiltà) was the Italian variant of the Victory Medal of other nations. It was established by royal decree number 1918 on 16 December 1920, which granted it to all who had been awarded the "fatiche di guerra" distinction by royal decree number 641 of 21 May 1916, or who had served for four months in an area under the jurisdiction of the armed forces and who had been mobilised and directly worked with the operational army. A public competition to design it was won by Gaetano Orsolini, with his design of 'Victory on a triumphal chariot, with the torch of liberty, drawn by four yoked lions'. 3) BELGIAN CROIX DE GUERRE. The award consists of a bronze Maltese cross, about 4cm across, with crossed swords between the arms and ball finials to each of the eight points. On the obverse and reverse are central disks with beaded borders, the obverse featuring a Lion Rampant while the reverse has the monogram, a stylized "A", of King Albert. Attached to the top of the cross is a 3 dimensional bronze crown, with ball and cross on top. A ring passes through the ball on the top of the crown through which the original, red with five stripes, ribbon is excellent. 4) WWII ITALIAN NATIONAL SECURITY LONG SERVICE MEDAL. Roughly 38mm x 38mm. Brass/tombak construction. Complete with original ribbon. The National Security Voluntary Militia's Long Service Cross. Originally created in 1933 for 10 years of good services within the militia (as indicated on its reverse : "Dieci Anni"), it became necessary in 1943 to create a decoration for 20 years service. Due to the critical wartime situation the decision was made to not strike a new cross with a 20 year reverse but instead to institute a ribbon device. This device, a Roman swords coloured red, was instituted on 28 January 1943. 5) WWII ITALIAN 1940-1943 MILITARY SERVICE MEDAL. Circular, die-struck bronze medal is approximately 33mm in diameter that features to the front, a crowned, female, from the tomb of the Unknown Soldier while the reverse has the inscription "GUERRA 1940-43". Italian style, fixed sideways medal loops from which a green and red striped silk ribbon is suspended. 6) WW1 ITALIAN WAR MERIT CROSS MERITO DI GVERRA. Croce al Merito di Guerra. Instituted on January 19, 1918, the Italian War Merit Cross was awarded to members of the armed forces who had served at least five months in the war zone or had been wounded in combat or had distinguished themselves in operations of considerable importance. There were other conditions as well that could have granted the award. It is constructed out of a die stamped zinc base that has been bronze washed. The obverse features on a Greek style cross, the crowned monogram of Vittorio Emanuele III (top arm), above “Merito di Gverra” (center), above a Roman gladius with oak leaves and acorns (lower arm). The reverse shows a centrally placed star with rays to the background. The top features a decorative piece with a ball loop and triangular ring. The ring holds 6 ¼ inches of blue ribbon. The ribbon is incorrect for this piece yet would be correct for the Military Valour Medal. Fading to the bronze wash. The cross measures 1 9/16 inches square. 7) WWI ITALIAN MEDAL OF WAR VOLUNTEERS 1915 1918. The Medal for the War Volunteer 1915-1918 (or Medaglia di Volontario di Guerra 1915-1918 in Italian) is an Italian medal instituted on 24 May 1924 and awarded to those who entered the Italian armed volunteer forces during WW1. It was established with Royal Decree n. 1163 by the Italian government. The medal was awarded to those who had participated in the war operations in a way worthy of commendation and who gave proof of belonging to one of the following categories:Former reformers who spontaneously enlisted as officers, non-commissioned officers or troop soldiers or of the CRE at least one month before the date of the decree that would have called them for a review visit; Soldiers who, declared unsuitable for war service due to injuries sustained in the war or due to infirmities, spontaneously returned to be part of the operating army or navy; Second and third category military personnel who had spontaneously taken up military service as officers, non-commissioned officers or militaries of the troop or the CRE at least four months before the date of the decree calling their class or category and actually were incorporated into the operating army or navy before the said recall; Spontaneously enrolled at least four months before being called to visit before the conscript councils and actually left to be incorporated into the army or navy operating before the date on which they would normally have passed the visit; Exempted by law from military service who, at least five months before November 4, 1918, spontaneously renounced the dispensation to be incorporated into the operating army or navy; 8) TE TENEO LEO GAVINIANA DIVISION IN ETHIOPIA MEDAL. This rare medal: it was created by the Royal Art Institute of Florence to commemorate the members of the "Gavinana" Infantry Division assigned to the II Army Corps deployed on the Northern Front (Eritrea) during the Ethiopian War in 1936. Time limits of the campaign are indicated on the reverse of the medal: first clash on October 3, 1935, up to the capture of Adis Ababa, on May 5, 1936. The main battles are also mentioned; Adua, Ueri, Scire and Semien. The back is completed by the Florentine Lily above and a crowned military crest with crossed muskets below. On the front of the medal, however, we find Justice (who evidently represents Italy) seated, with her right hand raised and crushing a lion, symbol of the Ethiopian Negus, under her feet. On the perimeter the inscription "TE TENEO LEO" and the manufacturer's mark, R. IST. FLORENCE ART. The medal measures approximately 34mm in diameter, has a bracket suspension attachment and is complete with the original white and red ribbon of the time; on the ribbon is pinned a frieze with the inscription FERT, the motto of the House of Savoy, of the County of Savoy, of the Duchy of Savoy, of the Kingdom of Sardinia, of the Kingdom of Italy and of the Kingdom of Albania under Italian occupation (1939 - 1943 ). 9) WWII ITALIAN MEDAL FOR THE WAR OF 1940-1943. Medal for the War of 1940-1943 - Type II, Bronze, 32.3 mm, original ribbon, residue in the recessed areas on the obverse from cleaning, near extremely fine. 10) WWII ITALIAN MEDAL OF MILITARY VALOR MEDAGLIA AL VALOR MILITARE.
