WW2 Japanese Signed Prayer Flag, good example of a silk Japanese national flag with black inked signed prayers around the whole flag. Corner tabs with ties. Some wear and area of damage but a good honest example of a Japanese prayer flag.
These flags were carried by Japanese soldiers into battle during WW2. They were signed by various members of the soldiers family and local people, religious figures etc. It was said to give the soldier luck in combat. These items were prized souvenirs by troops serving in the far east and the Americans in the Pacific islands.
