WWI US M 1913 PATTON CAVALRY SWORD LF&C DATED 1918

[ translate ]

Model of 1913 Cavalry Sword, colloquially known as the "Patton Sword." This was the last cavalry saber ever issued to American Cavalry units and was designed by George S. Patton before his rise to the rank of General. It was never used in combat by any Army cavalry unit -- the US Marine Corps Mounted Detachment of the American Legation Guard in China is the only unit to have fought with the Patton Sword. This example has an intact grip, basket style hilt mounting, khaki covered sheath, double-edged thrusting blade measuring 35" with minor scabbard wear but no knicks or bends to the blade. Marked on both sides with US Ordnance bursting bomb proof. LF&C 1918 on one side and US on the other. Scabbard is missing the 'tent peg' at the tip, as most surviving Patton swords are. Excellent
