WWII GI SOUVENIRS MAILED HOME IN BAMBOO CONTAINER

World War Two United States Army GI souvenirs mailed home to Crestline, Ohio from the Pacific Theater in a hollow piece of bamboo. Corporal John Swarey, 17th Infantry 7th Division, sent his fighting knife, Neptune Rex certificate, two bolo knives and a 7th Division patch home to his wife in a bamboo "mailer" measuring 18.25" long with a 4" diameter. The Bamboo container bears a U.S. Army passed examiner stamp. The outline of tape is still present where the top and bottom sections of the bamboo meet. Both of the bolo knives are personalized. The larger knife measures 17". The 7th Division insignia is carved in relief on the scabbard. Below that is painted a close representation of a 17th Infantry DI (Distinct Unit Insignia). The smaller knife measures 11.5" and features a 7th Division insignia carved in relief on the scabbard. Next to that is carved the name Marie Ann. John W. Swarer served in the 7th Division from 1942 - 1945 and was a veteran of four campaigns; The Aleutian Islands, the Marshals, the Philippines, and Okinawa. He received the Purple Heart medal for wounds received on Okinawa. A copy of his obituary is included. In-house shipping is available.
