World War II United States Army M1941 work hat, popularly known as the Daisy Mae, constructed from herringbone twill (HBT) cotton in olive drab shade no. 3. This specimen features the classic four-panel crown with four blackened metal ventilation eyelets and a wide, multi-stitched brim. The interior crown displays a faint purple stamped X. Attached to the interior is a white cloth contractor's label. The printed label is rectangular and reads: Mound City Cap Mfg., Incorporated, Cont. W 669 qm 14223. Below the contract number is a purple ink overstamp reading DATED FEB 4, 1942. The printed text continues with STOCK No.-73-H-42315, SPEC. P.Q.D. No.-21-B, DATED NOV. 7, 1941, and Phila. Q. M. Depot. The label includes a line for an Inspector and a large printed Size 6 5/8. Pickup is Monday, Nov. 9, from 11 am to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot, or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
