World War Two U.S. Navy VP-23 squadron patch. The patch is schiffli embroidered on twill. Designed by Disney and features “The Big, Bad Wolf”. Measures 7.625? x 3.875?. During WW2 the squadron was redesignated Patrol Squadron Twenty Three VP-23 on August 31, 1941 and then redesignated as Patrol Bombing Squadron VPB-23 on October 1, 1944. Official insignia approval date unknown. Assigned to Naval Air station (NAS) Pearl Harbor. During the December 7, 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, eight of the squadron’s aircraft were destroyed in their hangar at Pearl Harbor.
