WWII US PAL RH-36 Fighting Knife with Modified Stacked Leather Handle

A United States combat and utility knife from the World War II era. The weapon features a carbon steel clip-point blade with a single deep fuller on each side. The tang is fitted with a straight steel crossguard and a cast aluminum pommel of the bird's head variety, secured with a visible steel pin. The handle is constructed of stacked leather washers featuring red and black spacer rings near the guard and pommel. The grip has been modified with a tight wrap of black tape, likely a field or theater modification to improve traction. Stamped into the ricasso is a horizontal oval containing the characters PAL. To the left of the oval are the characters R.H. and to the right is -36. Below the oval is a printed mark reading MADE IN U.S.A. Overall length: 10.5 inches Blade length: 6 inches.
