WWII USAAF 444th BOMB GROUP 20TH AF UNIT HISTORY

This is a great hardcover copy of the World War II pictorial unit history of the United States Army Air Forces 444th Bomb Group, Very Heavy Special. Attached to the 20th Air Force, the 444th was a pioneer by being the first ever B-29 Superfortress group, and they participated in the initial attack on mainland Japan during World War II. The 676th, 677th and 678th Bombardment Squadrons were a part of the 444th, and all were attached to the 58th Bomb Wing and the 20th Air Force. The book features some color squadron insignia, a chronological mission breakdown and a roster in the back. It also has several period group photos, some showing nose art. Action photos are included through the unit's last mission at the Hikari Naval Arsenal in August 1945, as well as photos documenting the 444th's travels throughout Asia. The book was published circa 1946-1947 by Newsfoto Publishing of San Angelo, Texas and has a full roster in the back. There is a great embossed aircraft on the cover.
