WWII USMC 5-Gallon Steel Water Cans with 3rd Marine Division UNIS Markings
World War II United States Marine Corps 5-gallon water cans, also known as Jerry cans, constructed of welded steel with a dark olive drab finish. Each can features a three-bar carry handle and a cam-locking flip-top lid. The lower front of both cans is relief-embossed with the letters USMC. The first can is marked with yellow stenciled text reading WATER on the front and one side. The second can is marked with white stenciled text reading NON-POTABLE WATER on the front. This second can also displays a red diamond-shaped Unit Identification System (UNIS) tactical mark on the side, containing the numbers 131, flanked by the letter A and the number 2 at the corners. Adjacent to the UNIS diamond is a white stenciled serial or inventory number 331435. The interior of the lids contains original gaskets. This lot includes documentation identifying the set as associated with the 3rd Marine Division. Measurements: The cans measure 13.5 inches wide at the base and approximately 18.5 inches in height. Pickup is Monday, Nov. 9, from 11 am to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot, or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
