Literature
A walnut Victorian Eastlake clock shelf is a highly collectible late 19th-century wall bracket designed specifically to hold hefty mantel or parlor clocks. Originating from the Eastlake Movement (circa 1870–1900), these pieces moved away from the heavy, over-ornate curves of early Victorian styles in favor of geometric styling, incised spoon-carvings, and elegant scroll or corbel brackets. Because they were built to bear the weight of mechanical clocks, they are typically constructed from solid American walnut and feature a sturdier mounting design than standard decorative knick-knack shelves.
