One Hundred and One Dalmatians Assortment of 17 Pongo Study Sketches by Disney Legend Marc Davis (Walt Disney, 1961). This exceptional collection of 17 study sketches by Disney Legend Marc Davis offers a rare glimpse into the meticulous process of animating the spotted dogs in One Hundred and One Dalmatians. Although Pongo's design is credited to Bill Peet, and his animation to Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, Davis was tasked with an in-depth study of the dog's movements. Utilizing pen and ink on 16 field-size animation paper, these sketches meticulously capture the essence of Pongo's actions—from jumping onto objects to shaking his head. Serving as a character study, these illustrations acted as a foundational guide to ensure the dog's animations were both expressive and relatable, embodying the "proof of concept" stage in character development. Coming directly from the private archive of Marc and Alice Davis, this collection is not only a testament to Marc's role in Disney's animation history but also to his influence on iconic Disneyland attractions. Marc joined Imagineering after he completed his work on One Hundred and One Dalmatians where he famously created and animated one of Disney's most iconic villains Cruella De Vil. Recognized with a Disney Legend award and the Mousecar, Marc's contributions are immortalized on Main Street, USA, in Disneyland. In Good condition, with age-related toning and edge wear, this collection presents a unique opportunity for collectors to own a piece of Disney animation.
