Bambi Flower Pair of Original Nitrate Production Cels Signed by Marc Davis (Walt Disney, 1942). "Oh, that's all right. He can call me a flower if he wants to; I don't mind." This pair of original nitrate production cels from Disney's beloved fifth animated feature film, Bambi, features the character Flower, exquisitely hand-inked and hand-painted. Signed by Marc Davis, a key figure among "Walt's Nine Old Men," these 12 field nitrate cels capture Flower's endearing qualities, with one cel trimmed to 5" x 5". Nitrate cels were common from the 1920s to the 1940s. Marc Davis, who began his illustrious 43-year career at Disney in 1935, was assigned to animate Flower, bringing to life the character's shy, blushing demeanor. Davis's animation career is marked by the creation of some of Disney's most iconic characters, including Tinker Bell and Cruella de Vil, before his transition to developing classic Disneyland attractions. Recognized as a Disney Legend in 1989 and a recipient of the Mousecar, Davis, along with his wife Alice, are honored with their names in side-by-side windows on Main Street, USA, in Disneyland. These production cels come to auction from the private collection of Marc and Alice Davis. Despite showing the expected waviness of nitrate material, these cels are in Fair condition, offering a rare glimpse into the artistry behind one of Disney's most cherished films and the first character Marc Davis designed and animated. From the Disney Legend Inductees Marc and Alice Davis Archive. HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
