Walt Disney Studios - Peter Pan (20th Century)

[ translate ]

Peter Pan Peter Pan Animation Drawing Signed by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston (Walt Disney, 1953). "All right, Hook, you're free to go, and never return." Benevolent Peter Pan, true to his word, offers a defeated Captain Hook freedom in this original animation drawing from Peter Pan, Disney's 14th animated feature film, signed by Frank Thomas (1912 – 2004) and Ollie Johnston (1912 – 2008). A rare offering, Peter is featured wielding Hook's sword which is in his possession for less than 45 seconds of the entire film. But the presence of the sword is not the only rarity in this piece, the signatures of two of Walt's Nine Old Men are also featured. Thomas and Johnston's storied partnership has been fondly presented in multiple documentaries including Frank and Ollie, produced by Thomas' son in 1995. The pair also notably co-authored the reference book Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life, which contained the Studio's 12 basic principles of animation. The final remarkable aspect of this piece is that it features Peter Pan full-figured in the drawing, though in the matching on-screen moment he is only seen from the knees up. Peter can be spotted near the 1:11:51 mark after binding the pirate captain in his own Jolly Roger flag and seizing his sword. Including the sword, Peter has an outstanding character size of 7.25" x 7.75" and has been rendered in graphite and colored pencil on a sheet of 16 field animation paper with the signatures found near the lower corners. The impressive piece has been framed under Plexiglas to an overall size of 22.5" x 19.25" with a mat aperture of 14.25" x 11". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. With typical studio handling and wear including age-related toning, superficial surface wrinkles, and an errant pencil mark near the right edge, overall this phenomenal signed drawing is in Very Good condition.
