Sleeping Beauty Preliminary Maleficent as Dragon and Prince Philip Animation Drawing Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1959). This dramatic pair of outstanding 16 field 3-peghole animation drawings capture the moments before and after Prince Phillip stabs Maleficent through the heart with the Sword of Truth in the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. Maleficent's dragon form and Prince Phillip's sword are rendered in graphite, while Phillip himself is a print. These drawings can be found at about the 1:10:13 and 1:10:18 marks of the film as Phillip throws his sword. This specific drawing of Maleficent was either altered or did not make it into the final cut of the film, giving us a rare look at the making of this climactic moment. The Sword of Truth measures about 1.25'' x .25'' and Dragon Maleficent measures roughly 13.25'' x 10.25''. The two are labeled 20 and 53 in the lower right. Phillip's page has been trimmed to .75'' shorter and has no pegholes. There is minor edge and handling wear as well as light age-related toning. Light debris and small areas of residue.
