Walt Disney Studios - Sleeping Beauty (20th Century)

Sleeping Beauty Prince Phillip and Samson Pair of Animation Drawings (Walt Disney, 1959). Prince Phillip and his loyal steed Samson make an appearance in these two 16 field 3-peghole animation drawings. Samson, rendered in full figure with graphite and color pencil, can be found at about 1:09:24 in the film as he and the prince charge at the newly transformed dragon Maleficent. We weren't able to locate the graphite drawing of Phillip, though it looks to be from the initial scene where he meets Briar Rose because he is missing his signature cap and cape. The drawing is a great look into the early animation development for the character. The figures measure approximately 4.75'' x 9.75'' (Phillip) and 9.5'' x 8.25'' (Samson), noted as 81 and A-6 in the bottom right. Both have light age-related toning with minor edge and handling wear.
