Walter Castle Keith (1863-1927) Atelier - Dubbel Zijdig beschilderd !!ZeerUniek!!

[ translate ]

A very unique painting. NB! PAINTED ON BOTH SIDE.

Clearly signed bottom right.
Walter Castle Keith was born in Detroit, but lived in the Netherlands where Keith painted the picturesque lives of farmers and fishermen. He was particularly charmed by the fishing village of Katwijk, where he was part of the local painters' colony. He painted in the style of the Hague School. Characteristic is his limited attention to detail, which makes many of his works appear "unfinished". By building up his layers of paint he suggested volume. His light-drenched and colorful works mainly show the peaceful pace of the daily life of the fishing population.

Keith also lived and worked in Amsterdam, The Hague, Heeze and Laren. In 1920 he returned to the United States, but returned to the Netherlands several times for shorter and longer trips. His "Dutch" works were always readily sold in America.

Keith's work can be seen in the Katwijks Museum, the Gemeentemuseum Helmond and the Kempenland Museum. In authentic ornamental frame with visible damage.
