Dimensions: cm 39 x 39 x 9. Walter Valentini (Pergola, 22 October 1928) is an Italian painter, sculptor and engraver, internationally renowned in the field of graphics and engraving. He is a master of techniques such as etching, aquatint, dry-point, multicoloured lithography and chalcography. As an artist he established himself in the 1980s with a series of abstract works on panel and paper, all characterised by a precise sense of geometry, proportions and rhythm. Valentini’s geometric imagination is affected by the influences of the Russian avant-gardes of the 20th century (Constructivism) and marginally by the architectures painted by de Chirico in the metaphysical period, but it is based especially on the sense of harmony and proportion investigated by the Italian artists of the 15th century: De pictura, De re aedificatoria, De statua by Leon Battista Alberti, De prospectiva pingendi by Piero della Francesca, and De divina proportione by Luca Pacioli are treatises on perspective and on the golden rule which would direct all Valentini’s research on space, shapes and their balance. Astronomy and cosmography would also be important sources of inspiration for Valentini. His approach to celestial mechanics and architecture is mathematical and rigorous, but not without poetry. Shy and far from schools, currents and artistic groups, he declared his admiration for works by Paul Klee, Fausto Melotti and Osvaldo Licini; he cultivated the friendship with artists such as Luigi Veronesi, Emilio Scanavino and Hans Richter. He taught the art of engraving at the “Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti” in Milan, of which he was also director, from 1983 to 1985. Trackable shipping.
