Blick entlang eines ländlichen Wegs mit zwei Frauen im warmen Licht der Abendsonne, die Frauen haben sich von der Quelle im linken Vordergrund des Bildes Wasser geholt und sind nun auf dem Rückweg ins Dorf auf dem nächsten Hügel, unter dem sich im Hintergrund ein Fluss oder See auftut, an dessen Ufer am Horizont die Silhouette einer Stadt angedeutet ist, diese symbolisiert für die beiden das sichtbare und doch so weit entfernte städtische Treiben; mit dem in diesem Gemälde stilisierten Rückzug in das - mit der Kapelle in der linken Bildhälfte christlich behütete - naturnahe Leben verortet sich der Künstler motivisch in der Spätromantik, Öl auf Leinwand, 2. Hälfte 19. Jh., rechts unten signiert "W. Wünnenberg" sowie undeutlich ortsbezeichnet und datiert "Df[...]" und "18[...]", rückseitig Rahmungsetikett "Klingebeil Kassel", Craquelure, geringe Retuschen sowie etwas reinigungsbedürftig, gerahmt, Falzmaße ca. 48,5 x 66,5 cm. View along a rural path with two women in the warm light of the evening sun, the women have fetched water from the spring in the left foreground of the painting and are now on their way back to the village on the next hill, below which a river or lake opens up in the background, on the shore of which the silhouette of a town is indicated on the horizon, symbolising for the two the visible and yet so distant urban hustle and bustle; With this painting's stylised retreat into a life close to nature - protected by the chapel in the left half of the picture - the artist locates himself motivically in the late Romantic period, oil on canvas, 2nd half 19th century. Half 19th cent, signed "W. Wünnenberg" lower right and indistinctly inscribed and dated "Df[...]" and "18[...]", framing label "Klingebeil Kassel" on the reverse, craquelure, minor retouches and in need of cleaning, framed, rebated dimensions approx. 48.5 x 66.5 cm.
