13" x 9.5", parchment. Dated January 4th, 1819. Number 7771, 160 acres in the Missouri territory enumerated to Stephen Parker, for service in "Vail's Company, 7th Regiment." Signed by Josiah Meigs as Commissioner of the General Land Office and what appears to be secretary signed on behalf of President James Monroe. Vail's Company (7th Company, 7th US Infantry), was recruited in Kentucky for the War of 1812. It saw service at the Battle of Fort Harrison, Ohio, where it came to the relief of the beleaguered forces under then-Captain Zachary Taylor. It also participated in the Battles of Viller's Plantation and New Orleans. In 1815, it consolidated with the 2nd, 3rd, and 44th Regiments to form the 1st US Infantry regiment. **Fair condition overall. Some missing sections and light tears to edges.
