Warsito (Probolinggo, E. Java, 1946 - 2007) Tari Rejang (Rejang Dance)

[ translate ]

Warsito loves to paint the young children of East Bali, dancing the Rejang Dewa dance. The dance is performed by young female dancers who have not yet reached adolescence. It is done in groups, dressed in costumes, and headdresses made of coconut leaves, filled with yellow gumitir flowers. White and yellow colors dominate. It is staged in holy places, and functions as part of a yadnya (worship or devotion) ceremony for Balinese Hindus. The movement of the dancers in unison in their beautiful dress appears harmonious with the atmosphere of the performance, which is an offering to the gods and goddesses.
