Weinman Inspired Icarus Angel Bronze Sculpture - 25" x 22"

Adolph Alexander Weinman (American, 1870-1952) created the allegorical bronze figure, "Rising Day". The sculpture stands 25 inches tall and 24 inches wide with a dark brown patina. The base is inscribed with "A.A. Weinman Fecit & copr" and "Roman Bronze Works N-Y". Originally designed as a fountain figure for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, Rising Day and its companion piece, Descending Night, were reproduced by Weinman in two sizes following the exhibition. The figure embodies the waning hours of daylight, and Weinman's signature lyrical classical style is evident in the flowing lines of the Greco-Roman clothing worn by the figure. The bronze sculpture is a stunning representation of classical ideals and a prelude to the art deco style that was to follow.
