Well-preserved Near Eastern dagger retaining great form
A well-preserved Near Eastern dagger retaining lovely form, c. 1000 - 800 BC, dagger with blade and hilt cast as one piece, the hilt flanged to take inlays. The blade tapers regularly with lightly angled shoulders and prominent midrib, a heavy penannular rib is cast on to the base of the blade gripping the midrib between its open ends. L: 15 1/2 in (39.3 cm). A fine example with sharpened blade and a lovely mottled green-brown patina. Cf. Moorey, Catalogue of Persian Bronzes in the Ashmolean Museum, pp. 72-3, no. 49 for the type; Ex Southern California private collection.
