Well-preserved iron broad sword, Oakeshott Type XIV

A well-preserved iron broad sword believed to be from the Medieval period, c. 1250 - 1450, Oakeshott Type XIV, the blade broad, flat and sharply tapering with reinforced tip, the fuller running 3/4 the length. The hand-sized grip with curved guard and round bronze pommel with Latin inscription, Sunt hic etiam sua praecuna laudi, which translates as 'Here also are the Heralds of His Praise', around a raised central disk. L: 33 5/8 in (100.5 cm). Iron oxidation has formed on the bronze pommel, around the iron tang of the sword. Well-preserved blade with good edges. Cf. Metropolitan Museum, New York, for an Oakeshott type XIV sword with same inscription on pommel. Ex Neil Watt collection, Austin, TX; Ex Artomex, acquired in 1997.
