Illustrated hard boards; 7.1/2" x 10.1/4"; illustrated endpapers; unpaginated, 48 pages, fully illustrated, very good condition.

Feeling his mistress has rejected him in preference to her newly hatched chicks, the old hound dog decides he must hatch from an egg and learn to say "peep" to regain favor.

Wende and Harry Devlin graduated from Syracuse University with degrees in fine arts and both evolved into accomplished painters. The Devlins first collaborated in the 1950s on a syndicated comic strip, Raggmopp, based on the antics of their seven children. After this, for more than thirty years from 1963 to 1995, they delighted young children with their stories containing more than just happy endings.

Wende's words, brought to life by Harry's vivid illustrations, will continue to enthrall future generations as an unforgettable legacy in children's literature. They won several children's literature awards.
